Dragonkind FAQ
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Short answers, with the evidence back in the guides. If a claim can't be verified, we say so.
What is the Dragonkind game?
Dragonkind is the official free browser game by Rebecca Yarros, set in the world of Fourth Wing. You play a rider candidate entering Threshing Valley, making choices to survive and bond a dragon. It launched October 1, 2026 at dragonkind.com, alongside the Threshing Day story collection.
How long do you wait after dying in Dragonkind?
About 4 hours. Every death restarts the full wait, and there is no way to skip it. Retries are unlimited — check the countdown on your ending screen and use our retry timer to track it.
Is the Dragonkind timer 4 minutes or 4 hours?
4 hours. The countdown reads hours:minutes, not minutes:seconds — "3:58" means nearly 4 hours remain, not 4 minutes. This is the most common misreading among new players.
Is there a guaranteed route or answer key?
No. The developers release no answer key, and randomness is built in — the same choices have produced bonds and burns for different players. This guide tracks player-reported outcomes and marks every claim with a confidence level instead of promising certainty.
How do you get a black dragon in Dragonkind?
The only known door is a random third option — "follow the shadow" — that appears after climbing the tallest tree. Players report the chain: shadow → let the blue dragon leave → bandage a wounded cadet → head south → look back → meet the black dragon's eyes without bowing. There is no guaranteed route; reported successes include attempt 26.
How do you get a blue dragon in Dragonkind?
Two reported paths: accept the blue dragon on the shadow route when she offers, or find her spawning randomly beside the orange and brown dragons in the meadow (first reported October 6-7). Neither path is guaranteed.
Does the phone battery trick work for black dragons?
Unverified — treat it as a rumor. One site claims entering the valley with 76-90% phone battery triggers black dragons and is spreading it as a discovered mechanic. Other trackers label it unconfirmed, and players report different results at the same battery level.
Do I have to answer within 2 seconds in Dragonkind?
No. This rumor was disproved on October 7 — players who bonded blue dragons in the meadow took noticeably longer than two seconds to answer. Take the time you need; speed is not the mechanic.
Can you choose your dragon? Does your wing or squad matter?
No confirmed effect. Your wing (Flame, Claw, or Tail), section, and squad are assigned at signup, and no source has verified they change which dragons you meet. Your choices — and luck — decide the outcome.
My Dragonkind verification code didn't arrive. What now?
Codes are sent in batches, so waits are normal. Check spam and promotions folders first, then request a new code. Disposable temporary email addresses are rejected — use a real inbox. Requesting a new code does not shorten any active death cooldown.
Can you replay Dragonkind after bonding?
There are no verified observations of replaying or swapping dragons after a successful bond. Death-based retries are unlimited, but a finished bond appears to be final — choose your scenes carefully.
Do I need to read Fourth Wing first?
No. The game stands alone — everything you need is in the scenes themselves. Book readers will recognize dragon colors, tail types, and names like Tairn, but no lore knowledge is required to bond.
Can you bond Andarna, a feathertail, or a gold dragon?
There is no evidence you can. Gold and feathertail dragons are juvenile stages in the lore, and trackers list them as not bondable in the game.
