How to Play Dragonkind
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Dragonkind is Rebecca Yarros's official, free browser game from the world of Fourth Wing — a ten-minute choose-your-own-path run through Threshing Valley that ends with a bonded dragon or a pile of ash. Here is the whole loop, start to finish.
1. Sign up at the official site
Go to dragonkind.com and enter your email. Codes arrive in batches — check spam and promotions folders before panicking. Disposable temporary inboxes are rejected, so use a real address.
2. Get your assignment
The game assigns you a wing (Flame, Claw, or Tail), a section, and a squad. No source has verified that these change which dragons you meet — treat them as flavor, not strategy.
3. Enter Threshing Valley
Choose to walk in alone or with one or two squadmates, then pick a direction: east toward roaring, west toward a smell, or the forest center. This only decides which pool your first dragon is drawn from — and that first dragon is almost never yours.
4. Survive the first encounter
One rule covers nearly every variant: lower your eyes and stay still. Meeting its gaze, walking up confidently, or drawing a weapon are the most common deaths in the game.
5. Handle the screams
You will hear a squadmate being bullied. Do not step between them and do not charge — assess the situation and attack the smaller one. What you do here may shape which dragon colors bond you later.
6. The fork: tree or valley heart
About an hour in, thorns cut your hand and you smell smoke. Climb the tallest tree for the greens (and the rare shadow option), or keep walking to the valley center for the most reliable bond in the game — the red dragon.
7. Bond or burn
Commit fully in your bond scene: no hesitation, no second thoughts. If you burn, you wait about 4 hours and go again. Retries are unlimited.
Your first run: the safe plan
Want a bond on your first day? Skip the tree, walk to the valley center, and take the red dragon route — it is the most consistently reported successful bond across every tracker. Save the black and blue hunts for when you can afford the 4-hour waits.
