How to Get a Brown Dragon in Dragonkind
Last updated: October 11, 2026
Brown dragons test one thing above everything: decisiveness. We bonded one ourselves on October 11 — Scubain, a male brown daggertail, 75, of the Aldayrmar lineage — and this is the exact chain that worked, plus the two routes that got us burned first. Every step below is from our own runs, not scraped from other guides.

Getting to the meadow
1. Enter the valley and survive the first encounter
However you enter (alone or with squadmates, any direction), your first dragon is drawn from a random pool. It is almost never your dragon. Lower your eyes, stay still, and let it pass.
2. Handle the screams in the forest
Community route maps link mercy here to green/brown bonds: leave the bully to the dragons, or make the tourniquet for the wounded cadet. In our brown run we made the tourniquet.
3. Walk to the valley heart — and decline the red
A red dragon at the center will offer itself to you. It is the easiest bond in the game, but it is not a brown. Decline it and climb over the fallen tree-limb into the meadow.
4. In the meadow, find your brown
Orange and brown dragons graze here. When the brown turns away from you, the bond chain begins.
The bond chain, step by step
1. Shout at it to stop
The brown walks away from you. Chase after it and shout — certain, not pleading. It stops and turns, intrigued. (Running after it while unsure of yourself is an instant burn — we tested it.)

2. Lower your eyes and await its judgment
It towers over you, deciding whether you are worth its time. Do not run, do not speak — lower your eyes and wait.
3. Survive the mud fight: swipe the mud off and talk back
It drags you into the mud. Wipe the mud from your face and ask if it is quite done. Talking back here — not cowering — is what opens its final question.
4. Answer the bond question: "I will use it to defend the powerless"
"What will you do with this power?" — this is the moment. Answer that you will defend the powerless, and the bond seals.

Two routes that always get you burned
The tail-climb route is a designed dead end
We tested it across three separate runs. Climbing the tail reaches a different bond question ("throw your body weight on") that rejected every answer we tried — wise-guy and humble alike. Waiting on the tail for a better angle is an instant burn ("sensing your lack of confidence…"). Don't climb. Shout.
Any hesitation-worded option is instant death
"Wait", "unsure", half-hearted choices — two of our runs died to identical text: the brown senses your lack of confidence and roasts you with a single shot of fire. With browns, commit or die.
Burned? The wait is exactly 4 hours
Every death locks you out for exactly 4 hours — it does not increase with repeated deaths (we verified this ourselves and corrected the rumor). Track the countdown so you return the moment it clears.
